Topic – The Proclamation of Christ’’s Saving Gospel

Text – Romans 1: 1-17; 15:4

In the Congress, we are dealing with the Epistle to the Romans.

As we come to this Epistle we want to understand that this is an Epistle inspired by God, written by Paul the Apostle, and sent to us as well just as it was sent to the Church in Rome. It was written for us to benefit, to take note of, accept, believe and live by it.

It was given;

  1. To save and sanctify
  2. To teach us and prepare us in the way of the gospel
  3. To train us as minster and proclaimers of this saving gospel

3 points;

Point 1. Paul, the Preacher  of the Gospel of God

Romans 1:1,16; 10:15; 15:29; 1 Corinthians 15:1; Romans 1:3-4; Acts 3:26; 4:12; Romans 1:5; Titus 2:11

Who was Paul? What legacy, example has he left for you as a child of God, and preacher of the gospel?  Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, purchased by Him, and sold out to Him totally, not a servant of men, not of the Sanhedrin. Separated from the world, sin, and his own past life, and totally committed unto the Lord

Paul was a minister and man that was;

  1. Convicted – Acts 9:3-7. He was convicted of his sin, of his fighting with the Lord and heaven. You must be convicted of your sin before you can be used of God in the ministry.
  2. Converted – Acts 9:17. He was converted and this was clearly shown in his life.
  3. Called and Commissioned – Galatians 1:15,16,22-24. He received the call, and obeyed the commission.
  4. Consecrated to God – Philippians 3:7-9. Many failed in their calling because of lack of consecration. But in the case of Paul, he followed through with his consecration to the calling upon his life.
  5. Conquered Captive of the Lord – Galatians 1:10. He never tried to manifest his own will.
  6. Crucified minister – Galatians 2:20. His self, flesh, life was crucified unto the Lord.
  7. Cross bearing preacher – 2 Corinthians 12:7-9. He bore the cross cheerfully, joyfully, without murmuring nor complaining. He had his challenges, trials, buffeted of the enemy, of satan, yet he bore them all cheerfully.
  8. Compelled, constrict person into the army of the Lord – 1 Corinthians 9:16-17.  He has no freedom nor choice not to do the work of the ministry.
  9. Consumed and Constrained to do with what the Lord has called him to do – 2 Corinthians 5:14-15
  10. Contesting and contending minister
  11. Courageous minister – Acts 16:25-26,35-37. He had suffered quite a lot, and yet when the Lord opened the prison doors for him to escape, he stood his ground, a courageous man.
  12. Constantly concentrated on this singular purpose – Philippians 3:13,14; Acts 20:24. A man with focus, no here and there achieving nothing. In this new year, map out that one thing, concentrate on this, and do it. A pressing, pursuing and purposeful spirit, he had, may GOD give us this same spirit.

Thats a real, true, courageous servant, that put his neck to the yoke, and will not avoid this whatever the difficult.

And it is the gospel.

You will have to give yourself and addicted to this gospel of Christ, and not ashamed of this gospel.

It is the gospel of God, and of peace, that reconciles us to God.

It is the gospel of of God, of Christ, of peace, of grace, and it has all the blessings that everyone in the whole world need, from reconciliation to remission of sin, to redemption, to the righteousness of God, and then to the final glory.

What is the detail of this real gospel? It is the gospel of salvation, of grace, of Christ. The gospel is according to the Scriptures, so anything outside the scriptures is not part of the gospel. This is the gospel concern His Sons, His birth, life, death, crucifixion, resurrection, ascension, and intercession for us now in Heaven. Jesus, our only Saviour, Sanctifier, Healer, Baptiser in the Holy Ghost, Coming King, our Captain.

He came to save us, turn us away from iniquity, and give us salvation.

Through this Jesus Christ,  we have grace and salvation, grace and holiness, grace and sanctification, grace and peace of mind, grace and purity, grace and service, grace and calling, grace and commission, grace and ministry, grace and apostleship. It is that grace first that bring us to salvation, and then to the service of the Lord.

All the grace we need the Lord will give to every one of us without any restraint in Jesus Name.

Point 2. His Plan of Proclaiming the Gospel of Grace

Romans 1:6-13

Paul had a plan, you too must have a plan to preach this gospel.

As we look at Paul’s

  1. He prayed – Romans 1:9. If you have a plan, you must pray through on that plan, pray for the people you intend to reach with the gospel
  2. He planned – Romans 1:10-11. Follow up your prayer with planning. Not enough to pray.
  3. He purposed – Romans 1:13. Have a firm purpose, and keep that in focus. And anything that will want to hinder that purpose, you take away.

And he assured them as well of the following;

  1. Called to be saints – Romans 1:7; 1 Thessalonians 4:7; 1 Peter 1:15,16.  We need to remember that every time that the converts we are bringing into the kingdom, are called to be saints, so this will reflect in our preaching, teaching, counselling as well
  2. Converted to the faith beyond their immediate society – Romans 1:8; 16:19. Their conversion went beyond their community, it resulted to a new character, comportment, and people were talking of the change of life that they had. This is the beauty of preaching and receiving the gospel. That our converts when their lives are changes, the community we notice that, and talk about this.
  3. Committed to their growth and steadfastness – Romans 1:9. He wanted them established, to grow, and be steadfast as well.

Point 3. The Passion for Preaching the Gospel of Godliness

Romans 1:14-17; 2 Timothy 4:1-

Understand that they have received the gospel, and have been saved, and yet there was still much more for them to learn.

Notice from this passage;

  1. He had a debt he owed – Romans 1:14
  2. The decision he offered – Romans 1:15
  3. The duty he owned – Romans 1:16
  4. The doctrine he obeyed – Romans 1:17

Also you will see;

  1. The debt that must be paid – Romans 1:14; 1 Corinthians 9:16. You have a debt to pay for those around you who do not know the gospel.
  2. The decision that must be pursued – Romans 1:15; Acts 21:13. There are people that take decision, but don’t work nor follow through on that decision. He was willing to pursue this decision till death
  3. The dedication which must be preserved – Romans 1:16; 15:19. This is the kind of dedication that the church and her members must still preserve.
  4. The doctrine which must be published – Romans 1:17; Galatians 3:11; Hebrews 10:38,39. That was what brought the reformation, and the religious people of Martin Luther days out of darkness. We should keep on proclaiming that to bring sinners into faith and grace of the Lord Jesus Christ.

This is our calling and ministry, and we will do this in Jesus Name.

Preach the word, and by the grace we will do it,  and it will bear fruits in Jesus Name.

Paul had done his own part of his work, and it is our own turn to arise and proclaim the gospel of God, and this same God is still alive Who helped Paul, and He will help us today.

Come to the throne of grace and obtain help for the  ministry.

Ponder on this! It is the gospel of of God, of Christ, of peace, of grace, and it has all the blessings that everyone in the whole world need, from reconciliation to remission of sin, to redemption, to the righteousness of God, and then to the final glory. Pastor (Dr) W.F Kumuyi.
